John Nada (Piper) is a struggling labourer who drifts into town and luckily scores a job at a construction site. Discovering a box of sunglasses, Nada swipes a pair and is shocked to find what he can see through them; billboards demand citizens 'Eat' or 'Sleep', TV shows spout orders at him and some people look rather less than human.

This is indeed a classic John carpenter movie with a pretty cool and interesting and original story. Carpenter has made a few classics in his time and this is certainly one of them. A must own for genre fans at this cheap price.
Over the years they live has began to fade away from memory as new and exciting films a released. This dvd marks the return of They Live with loads of special feature not found on the original dvd. Definately one for fans of horror classics. Obviously the fight scenes are bad and the aliens look absolutely hilarious but what can you expect from a classic horror. I advise everyone to give this film a go
This much overlooked John Carpenter film is classic Carpenter from start to finish.
Carpenter takes a basic story and runs wild with it what if aliens invaded and managed to take over society without any of us noticing.
Roddy Piper plays the lead role very well with some excellent support from the great Keith David, This really is Carpenter doing what he does best and if you are a fan of his work you really need this classic in your collection.
I've been a John Carpenter fan ever since 'Big Trouble in Little China' & 'The Thing' This one somehow passed me by, and is often overlooked by snobby critics.
Yet much like Carpenters early work this has the same amount of charm and is in the same genre as an episode of 'The outer Limits' or 'The Twilight Zone' I was prepared to be disappointed, as Carpenters later and recent films have been dreadful and i wondered if this is where the down turn started, but having seen it, it's by far one of his most enjoyable, it feels like Carpenter was still prepared to take some risks, and not try keeping up with what was considered popular at the time and the WWE's Rowdy Roddy Piper is surprisingly very good along with the supporting actors. I would recomend this to any John Carpenter or film fans for that matter, forget what the snobby critics say.
Came across this movie by accident in the early 90's a classic late night 1am 'oh there's nothing else on' I'll just fall asleep to this, an hour and a half later, wide awake, thinking to myself 'OMG that was awesome, why haven't I heard of it'. A bit rough around the edges sure, but a classic nonetheless.
Amusingly, the message of the Media/Political elite controlling humanity through the medium of advertising and TV is more relevant today than it was then!
